The game is set in Japan's Edo period while Japan inified new shogun has after years of war. Now danger is in new warlord - Kage-sama who is a threat fot country's stability. Shadow Tactics is very similliar to Commandos series. It is a 2.5D tactical combat game with stealth elements. The gameplay revolves around stealthily killing guards and hiding their bodies as the player works her way towards the mission objective. The game presents five characters for the player to control: Hayato, Yuki, Mugen, Aiko and Takuma.
